MARLITER (BSB138) – Black Sea Cross

MARLITER (BSB138) – Black Sea Cross

The fourth edition of the Black Sea Cross brought a record number of participants. Over 2000 adults and children responded to the call to run for the Black Sea, throwing also marine litter to the basket.

October 27th, 2019 remains a memorable day for Mare Nostrum NGO, one of the beneficiaries of the project „Improving online public access to environmental monitoring data and data tools for the Black Sea Basin supporting cooperation in the reduction of marine litter – MARLITER”, BSB 138. Over 2000 people took part in the Black Sea Cross, choosing to spend the day with other sports and environmental lovers.

The start of the cross was at 11.00 after all participants had previously warmed up with a specialized trainer. This year was a record of participation from runners eager to enjoy the sea offseason. The big challenges of the event were for the participants to wear a clothing item or an accessory that is characteristic of marine fauna. The second challenge was to throw at the basket a waste found on their route.

Children had the opportunity to find more about first aid courses, supported by one of the best specialists in the field. The delight was great and the curiosity pushed many children to attend these courses, so they could learn how to save a life in the future.

Black Sea Cross kept its noble side: the participants ran for a cleaner Black Sea, with #noplastic. The race was not against time and each participant did it in his rhythm. The event was organized within the project „Improving online public access to environmental monitoring data and data tools for the Black Sea Basin supporting cooperation in the reduction of marine litter – MARLITER”, BSB 138, funded by ENI CBC Black Sea Basin Program 2014-2020. The overall objective of the project is to promote a stronger cross-border integration of information, knowledge and expertise in the field of environmental monitoring and marine waste issues in the Black Sea basin.
